HELLO! Trigger Happy TV is making a comeback

Conor Heneghan

The big phone is coming back…

Cult hidden camera show Trigger Happy TV will make a long-awaited return later this month.

Trigger Happy TV, the brainchild of comedian Dom Joly, ran for two series on Channel 4 from 2000 to 2003 and contained a number of repeat sketches that lived long in the memory, particularly the one featuring Joly obnoxiously roaring into an oversized Nokia phone in quiet public areas.

According to Metro, a new eight-part series will run as short five or six minute episodes on streaming service All 4 and will be available to watch from September 26.

While Joly himself says the show will be made up of entirely new characters, it is understood that there will be an adaptation of the ‘Big Mobile’ sketch, to be called ‘Big Smartphone’.

Other sketches, meanwhile, will include ‘Angry Cyclist’, ‘Big Vape’ and ‘Emoji Face’.

While a rights agreement means that the All 4 Service is only available in the UK, some programmes are available in the Republic of Ireland, subject to rights, while Joly himself appeared to suggest on Twitter that it will be available to a wider audience.

13 years on, we’re looking forward to seeing what comes from Tripper Happy TV Mark 2.
