Perhaps a Christmas 2021 release may be on the cards.

The reboot of perennial Christmas favourite Home Alone could be arriving soon, with one of its stars revealing that the film is “very close” to being finished.

Kenan Thompson (Kenan and Kel, SNL) has said that while shooting was delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the movie is nearly completed.

Asked about the film on US talk show Watch What Happens Live, Thompson replied: “It was a long shoot. It started in Canada and got shut down.

“It’s been very splotchy as far as trying to get it done is concerned but I think they’re getting very close to finishing it.

“I did ADR [automated dialogue replacement] for it recently. That’s usually one of the last steps, so it’s coming out.”

Set to be distributed by Disney+, and with this news arriving in April, it may be possible that the Home Alone reboot could drop on the streamer this Christmas season.

Joining Thompson in the film will be child star Archie Yates (Jojo Rabbit), as well as Rob Delaney (Catastrophe), Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Chris Parnell (30 Rock) and Irish comedian Aisling Bea (This Way Up).

Thompson’s fellow SNL cast member Mikey Day is writing the movie, which will be directed by Dan Mazer (Dirty Grandpa).
