House Of The Dragon Season 2 now has a very vague release date

Settle in, we’ve got a little bit of a wait ahead of us…

We know it has only been a few days since that season finale, but we can all agree that we’re all still a state of shock with House Of The Dragon has left things.

Really? Like this?? YOU’RE GOING TO LEAVE US LIKE THIS?!?!

As emotional cliffhangers go, it was quite the gut punch, and now all eyes are on when the show will be returning to our screens. Back when Game Of Thrones was airing, a new season would debut every April, until we got to the final season, which took two years to complete.

And it turns out, House Of The Dragon Season 2 is going to be closer to that finale season of Game Of Thrones in terms of production time.

During an interview with Vulture about the future of the series, HBO chief Casey Bloys said the following about the House of the Dragon Season 2 release date:

“Don’t expect it in 2023, but I think sometime in 2024. We’re just starting to put the plan together, and just like last time, there are so many unknowns. It’s not to be coy or secretive, but you don’t want to say it’s going to be ready on this date, and then you have to move it.”

2024 could be January that year (which is “only” 14 months away), or it could be December that year (a whopping 26 months away), but either way, the new show isn’t arriving tomorrow, and making us wait any longer than one day is absolute torture.

House of the Dragon’s co-creator George R.R. Martin has said the series needs “four full seasons” in order to do justice to its source material, which means we’re also already a quarter of the way through the show.

And while it took us a little while to get used to Milly Alcock replaced by Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra, and Emily Carey replaced by Olivia Cooke as Queen Alicent, it didn’t take long for us to be blown away by the new performers’ interpretations of the older characters.

But should we expect that to happen again in the next season(s)? Yep, probably. The show will centre entirely around the children of Rhaeynra and Alicent going to war with one another, so all those younger actors will likely be replaced by older performers in the years to come.
