May the odds be ever in your favour.

Unlike the hypothetical question of whether or not you would actually survive The Hunger Games, let’s deal in facts.

Suzanne Collins is taking readers back to Panem because she’s writing a a new Hunger Games prequel and it’s set for release in May 2020.

The prequel will be set 64 years before the beginning of Katniss Everdeen’s story and is set for release next year.

Collins said that the prequel will return to the so-called dark days, the failed rebellion in Panem.

“With this book, I wanted to explore the state of nature, who we are, and what we perceive is required for our survival,” she said.

“The reconstruction period 10 years after the war, commonly referred to as the Dark Days — as the country of Panem struggles back to its feet — provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity.”

The first three Hunger Games books – The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay – have sold more than 100 million copies but like any beloved series, they were also adapted for the big screen with Jennifer Lawrence in the lead role.

While a new novel is reason to celebrate, film fans will also be very happy to know that Lionsgate are already working “closely with her (Collins) on the movie,” as stated by The Hollywood Reporter.

Given the fact that the four films made almost $3 billion at the worldwide box office, we think the studio is very interested in adapting the new novel.

“As the proud home of the Hunger Games movies, we can hardly wait for Suzanne’s next book to be published.

“We’ve been communicating with her during the writing process and we look forward to continuing to work closely with her on the movie,” Joe Drake, chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said in a statement.

Let the games begin…
