The reason why I’m A Celeb contestants always wear red socks

There’s a pretty grim reason behind the fashion choice.

This year’s series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! kicked off on Sunday night, with the show returning to the Australian jungle for the first time since 2019.

Fans were treated to the familiarity of that famous bridge, some skydiving celebs and the traditional camp and studio. We’ve even had a shock exit after less than 24 hours.

Winter is well and truly here.

But despite being on our screen for two decades, there are some mysteries that still surround the show, such as the reason behind the contestants’ camp getup.

Regular viewers will have noticed over the years that the celebrities all wear red socks while they are in camp. And it turns out that there is a practical reason behind this, according to a show insider.

Bob McCarron a.k.a. the legendary Medic Bob worked on the show for years before leaving earlier this year.

He told Woman’s Own a few years ago that the socks are actually to cover up blood splatters from the many and varied blood-sucking bugs that live in the jungle.
