JOE meets Peter Segal – director of the new Stallone v DeNiro boxing flick, Grudge Match

The man who had to direct Sly and Bob. Good luck with that one...

Eoghan Doherty

Round two. Ding! Ding!

We’ve already brought you JOE’s interview with living legends Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone, and now it’s time to step back in the ring for JOE’s chat with Peter Segal, the director of their new fightin’ film, Grudge Match.

Grudge Match tells the tale of two retired, rival boxers who, after a thirty year absence from the sport, decide to step back into the ring for one last bout to finally settle who really is the greatest fighter of them all.

The two grumpy old men, Jake LaMotta Billy ‘The Kid’ McDonnen (De Niro) and Rocky Balboa  Henry ‘Razor’ Sharp (Stallone), may be in the twilight of their careers, but that’s not going to stop them from taking one last shot at the title… or at each other’s super-sized schnozzles.

And so, ahead of the film’s release in Irish cinemas on 24th January, the film’s director, Peter Segal (Naked Gun 33 1/3, Anger Management, Get Smart) requested an interview with the one, with the only, JOE.ie, weighing in at a whopping… well, we’re not going to tell you that, are we? We are on our January detox after all.

Check out the class clip below where we ask the director what it’s like to try and direct acting legends De Niro and Stallone, we talk about the big screen boxing legacy of his two leading men, and we exclusively find out the answer to the question on everybody’s lips – just what the heck do Hollywood directors read when they’re sitting on the toilet?

Enjoy…

Grudge Match is released in Irish cinemas on 24th January so check out the trailer below:
