Speaking to People magazine, Lohan said: “I’m just excited to work with Jamie again and see how much further we can take it.

“Because we talk almost every other day in general, so I think we’re going to have a lot of fun with this.”

Based on a 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers, Freaky Friday has been adapted multiple times for the screen.

However, The 2003 flick starring Lohan and Curtis has been the most commercially successful, earning around $160 million at the box office during its release.

Speaking last year in a joint interview with the New York Times, Lohan and Curtis opened up about their willingness to return for a sequel.

“As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday,” said Curtis.

“Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.’”

Lohan added that the two were “both open” to a sequel, saying: “We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”

Lohan couldn’t confirm when filming would start or if a script was finished for the upcoming sequel, However, she said the project is “in the process”, which means at least the wheels are turning.

Those waiting for Freaky Friday 2 can at least enjoy Lohan’s return in the upcoming Irish Wish, which follows a similar plot of a woman waking up in a completely different scenario, after making a wish to marry her dream guy.
