Ever since it was announced that he would be visiting Dublin, the city has been abuzz with excitement.

Folks flocked online when tickets to his masterclass were made available to the public, and now the Irish Film & Television Academy have announced that none other than our very own President is getting involved in proceedings.

According to a statement by IFTA, Michael D Higgins will present Martin Scorsese with the Academy’s prestigious John Ford Award at a very special Reception event in Dublin on Saturday 25 Feb, immediately after the world renowned filmmaker delivers a key Masterclass with IFTA Academy Members and filmmakers.

IFTA Chief Executive Áine Moriarty said: “The response from our industry has been extraordinary this week, which genuinely reflects the enormous respect Irish filmmakers have for Martin – he truly is an inspiration; we thank Martin for his support for the Academy and our work, and for taking the time to share his great knowledge and expertise with our Irish filmmakers here in Dublin.”

Meanwhile, the legendary director himself is excited to head over and receive the prestigious award: “To be honoured by the Irish Film & Television Academy and to receive an award created in celebration of John Ford’s artistry and prestige, has great personal significance for me.”

Earlier this week it was announced that Scorsese’s next movie The Irishman would be released as a Netflix exclusive, so we expect that to be a major topic of conversation on the day.

If you are present at the masterclass, let us know if Marty comes out with any great zingers!
