It comes from the director of what is arguably the best movie of the 21st century so far.
While there are some big movies to come in 2023 that we're still dying to see a trailer for - we're looking at you, Barbie! - Warner Bros. has gone ahead and released a teaser trailer for Mickey 17, a movie not due to arrive in cinemas until 2024!
And when we say teaser trailer, we truly mean teaser trailer, as this does nothing more than let you know the lead actor, the title, and the release date.
Oh, and that it is very sci-fi'y. Here it is, in all of its 33-second glory:
So, what is Mickey 17?
Well, it is based on a novel titled Mickey7 by Edward Ashton, which was published in February of this year.
It tells the story of Mickey Barnes (played by Robert Pattinson), who is a disposable employee part of a crew to help colonise an ice planet named Niflheim. Every time Mickey dies, a new version of him is cloned with almost all of his memories restored.
In the book (which they've altered slightly, if the movie's title is to be taken literally), when Mickey7 goes missing and is presumed dead at the hands of some dangerous indigenous creatures on the planet, Mickey8 is created and sent out for duty. And that is when the trouble starts...
The movie adaptation will also star Toni Collette, Mark Rufallo, Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun and Holliday Granger, and is directed and written for the screen by Bong Joon-ho, his first film since 2019's groundbreaking Parasite.
Mickey 17 is set for release in cinemas on 29 March 2024, which is already set to be a bonkers month for blockbusters, as it currently will also include Pixar movie Elio (1 March), A Quiet Place: Day One and Kung Fu Panda 4 (both 8 March), Godzilla & Kong (15 March), Disney's live-action adaptation of Snow White (22 March), and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (29 March).
Bring on March 2024!
