Let Us Prey – Legend – 10.55pm

Liam Cunningham is excellent in this Irish horror as an enigmatic stranger whose arrival at a small town coincides with the place descending into chaos.

City of Tiny Lights – AMC – 10.55pm

Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler, Sound of Metal) plays a private detective in this British crime thriller.

Mulholland Drive – Film4 – 11.20pm

One of legendary filmmaker David Lynch’s masterpieces, this neo-noir mystery thriller boasts cinema’s best jump scare of all time.

Hell is for Heroes – Turner Classic Movies – 11.45pm

Another war film, except this one stars Steve McQueen and comes from director Don Siegel (Dirty Harry).

Starship Troopers – ITV4 – 11.50pm

Last but not least is our pick for tonight, this 1997 sci-fi action blockbuster set in the 23rd century which follows teenager Johnny Rico (Casper Van Dien) and his friends who enlist to fight in a war between humans and giant alien bugs.

Directed by the great Paul Verhoeven (Basic Instinct, RoboCop, Total Recall) and misunderstood upon its release, Starship Troopers’ manages to deliver both thrilling action spectacle while also constantly satirising fascism, propaganda and war. Thanks to this successful blend of warring tones, the movie has received a critical reappraisal in recent years.
