Another iconic gaming franchise is getting the big screen treatment
The current gaming adaptation craze looks set to continue.
2023 already feels like the year of the video game adaptation, already giving us the critically acclaimed The Last of Us TV show, as well as the biographical film Tetris and the animated The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
On top of this, a Gran Turismo film is set for a cinema release this summer, while a Borderlands movie has been shot and is awaiting a release date.
And the gaming adaptation craze looks like it will continue as a new Street Fighter movie has been confirmed as being in the works.
A co-production between the video game company Capcom and film production company Legendary Entertainment, the upcoming live-action outing will not be the first time the legendary fighting video game series has been turned into a movie.

In 1994, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia starred in an adaptation, titled Street Fighter, which was a hit at the box office but was panned by critics. Meanwhile, another adaptation in 2009, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, also received negative reviews and was a box office flop.
Further details about the new live-action movie are being kept under wraps, with the official Twitter account for the gaming franchise stating that more information will "come in the future".
Meanwhile, the much anticipated next installment in the Street Fighter gaming series - Street Fighter 6 - is planned for release for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on 2 June 2023.
