We’ll be waiting a while for the new episodes.
Earlier this month, The Last of Us wrapped up its first season, becoming one of the most acclaimed shows of recent years.
The post-apocalyptic video game adaptation mostly takes place 20 years after a mass infection sparked a global pandemic, with victims of the disease transforming into zombie-like creatures.
It centres around Joel (Pedro Pascal – Game of Thrones, The Mandalorian), a smuggler who finds himself tasked with escorting Ellie (Bella Ramsey – Game of Thrones), a teenager who could be the key to a cure, across a dangerous and devastated United States.
Already renewed for a second season, the show was a massive hit and earned universal acclaim. JOE’s entertainment editor Rory Cashin called the series “a savage, beautiful, terrifying masterpiece”, saying in his review:
“Writers Craig Mazin (who was behind HBO’s fantastic Chernobyl series) and Neil Druckmann (creator of the video game) have remained largely entirely faithful to the story’s origins, but have adjusted and expanded it in ways that both improve and deepen the world, especially in terms of giving more time to the individuals that Joel and Ellie cross paths with on their journey.”
‘It will be a while’ for season two
And with the final episode of The Last of Us’s series expertly laying the track for a second season, fans have begun to wonder when the sophomore batch of episodes will arrive.
Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show at the weekend, Ramsey provided a timeline for people, explaining:
“It will be a while. I think we’ll probably shoot end of this year, beginning of next and then it’s like a year filming. So it’ll be probably end of 2024, early 2025.”
While this wait may be a struggle for fans, they can take solace in the fact that Ellie and Joel’s friendship onscreen mirrors Ramsey and Pascal’s.
Speaking about her bond with Pascal, Ramsey told Ross: “It’s very real… I love him. I miss him actually. He’s in Los Angeles living his best life. The Mandolarian’s just come out so he’s very busy.”
