A twisted horror sequel is among the movies on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

It sees the return of a horror icon.

At long last, the weekend is here!

And if you are staying in tonight, there are some solid movies airing on telly.

Here are your options.

Deadpool – E4 – 9pm

Ryan Reynolds is the merc with a mouth.

The A-Team – Comedy Central – 9pm

Bradley Cooper, Liam Neeson, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson and a scene-stealing Sharlto Copley reboot the classic TV show.

Zombieland: Double Tap – Film 4 – 9pm

The long-awaited follow-up to 2009’s hit zombie comedy.

The Expendables – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

Sylvester Stallone directs and stars in this throwback to older action flicks.

Shut In – Horror Xtra – 9pm

Naomi Watts leads the cast of this psychological horror with a measly 5% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid – TG4 – 9.05pm

It’s Friday, which means TG4 is airing a Western.

Countdown – RTÉ2 – 9.35pm

Not the long-running quiz show, but the 2019 horror about a killer app starring Elizabeth Lail (Netflix’s You).

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – Virgin Media One – 10.15pm

This superhero sequel with Andrew Garfield as the titular web-slinger is widely considered the worst Spider-Man movie.

Hellbound: Hellraiser II – Horror Xtra – 10.50pm

Our pick for tonight is the sequel to the 1987 classic Hellraiser.

In the follow-up, teenager Kirsty (Ashley Laurence) is admitted to a psychiatric hospital following the traumatic ordeal she went through in the original.

Unfortunately for her, her doctor (Kenneth Cranham) is obsessed with the occult and winds up unleashing the Cenobites once again.

Much more sprawling and messy than the first Hellraiser, Hellbound at least gives Doug Bradley’s villainous Pinhead more screentime.

It also builds on the original’s mythology, as well as its impressively gross special effects.

Eagle vs Shark – Film4 – 11pm

This rom-com was the debut film from writer-director Taika Waititi.

US Marshals – Turner Classic Movies – 11.10pm

Tommy Lee Jones reprises the character he won an Oscar for playing in The Fugitive for this much less gripping spin-off. Wesley Snipes and Robert Downey Jr are in support.

Armageddon – ITV4 – 11.15pm

Michael Bay’s tremendously entertaining sci-fi disaster flick starring Ben Affleck and Bruce Willis.

Grudge Match – Comedy Central – 11.20pm

This sports comedy sees Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone play aging boxers who step into the ring for one last bout.

Leap Year – RTÉ One – 11.40pm

Amy Adams heads to Ireland in this much-mocked romantic comedy.
