The weekend is usually good for a movie or two…
So let’s see if that working theory holds up, shall we?
Here’s the very best available on your TV screen on this Saturday 29 June…
In Time – SyFy – 6.50pm
Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried go on the run in a dystopian world where time literally is money.
Enchanted – RTÉ One – 7.05pm
Enjoyable fairytale fish out of water adventure that made a star of Amy Adams.
Captain America: The First Avenger – Channel 4 – 8pm
Where it all began for Chris Evans in the MCU proper.
Notting Hill – ITV Be – 9pm
Hugh Grant in charmingly befuddled mode.
The Shawshank Redemption – Virgin Media Two – 10.05pm
It’s probably possible to one day get sick of this film, but we’re nowhere near there yet.
Knight and Day – Channel 4 – 10.15pm
Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz mill about in a spy-themed comedy action jaunt that isn’t as good as it should be, but coasts by on its dazzling star power.
Raw – Film 4 – 10.45pm
Rather great and terrifically bloody European horror. Warning – will likely change how you feel about food.
Buried – BBC One – 11.50pm
Ryan Reynolds wakes up inside a box.
Pandorum – SyFy – 11.50pm
Space-based terror that will remind you of Event Horizon, isn’t as good as Event Horizon, but is still decent nonetheless.
When a Stranger Calls – RTÉ 2 – 12.35am
Horror update that barely works in terms of its gimmick and certainly wouldn’t work today. Find out why by watching. Maybe.
Stoker – Film 4 – 12.40am
Oldboy director Park Chan-wook makes his English-language debut with this tale of a house full of terrible people.
Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode and Dermot Mulroney make up the numbers.
LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
