It’s the loooong weekend and if you’re looking to take it easy this Sunday night or even planning to stay up late in front of the telly, then luckily for you there’s loads of excellent movies on TV.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix – ITV2 – 6.15pm
The longest book is packed into the shortest film of the series and the fifth installment is seen as the turning point at which Harry and the gang start to grow up and face the dangers that lurk beyond Hogwarts’ walls.
The Magnificent Seven Ride! – ITV4 – 7.05pm
The third and last sequel of the Magnificent Seven series starring Lee Van Cleef as Chris Adams, succeeding Yul Brynner and George Kennedy in the role.
The Evil That Men Do – Virgin Media Four – 9pm
Charles Bronson plays an un-retired assassin whose last job is to avenge the death of his journalist friend at the hands of a torturer called “The Doctor”.
Baywatch – E4 – 9pm
2017 action comedy based on the 80’s TV show of the same name and starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. It’s…. not good, but it is one of the movies on TV tonight.
12 Strong – Film Four – 9pm
2018 war film starring Chris Hemsworth and Michael Shannon telling the story of the “Horse Soldiers”, a specialist group of US army men who are deployed to Afghanistan after the September 11 attacks.
Zombieland – Great! Movies – 9pm
Great horror-comedy which released slap bang in the middle of the zombie film and TV epidemic, starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone as a ragtag group who travel across the country in order to find a safe haven from the undead.
First Blood – ITV4 – 9.15pm
The first outing for Sly Stallone as Vietnam vet John Rambo is among the movies on TV this evening.
The Lost Boys – BBC Three – 9.30pm
Our pick for tonight is the excellent 80’s coming-of-age horror starring Corey Haim, Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Feldman and Jason Patric.
Set in the fictional California beach town of Santa Carla, The Lost Boys centres on two brothers Michael and Sam, who move to the town with their mother and find out that it is actually infested by hordes of vampires.
Kiefer Sutherland’s performance as the brooding leader of a group of bloodsucking bikers is an all-timer and the film itself is such a cultural touchstone for the late 80’s that it never goes out of style. Come for the excellent cast, stay for the sax solos.
Calm With Horses – RTÉ One – 9.30pm
An underrated Irish flick starring Hollywood’s new favourite Dub Barry Keoghan and Cosmo Jarvis, centering on a boxer-turned-enforcer who must weigh up a life of crime with caring for his young son.
The King’s Speech – BBC One – 10.30pm
Multiple Oscar-winning wartime drama starring Colin Firth as King George VI who strikes up a friendship with Australian speech and language therapist Lionel Logue, played by Geoffrey Rush, to help his stammer.
Bandidas – Great! Movies – 10.50pm
Salma Hayek and Penélope Cruz star in this Western comedy about two Mexican women of different backgrounds who team up to take down a ruthless baron.
Ali – BBC Two – 11pm
Michael Mann directs this 2001 biographical sports drama about the life of boxing legend Muhammad Ali, which earned Will Smith a Best Actor Oscar nomination.
Underwater – Film Four – 11.35pm
Kristin Stewart stars in this sci-fi horror about a future underwater facility in the Mariana Trench getting attacked by an undiscovered species of creature.
The Worst Person in the World – Channel 4 – 12.45am
Joachim Trier’s excellent romantic drama follows Julie (Renate Reinsve) across fourteen “chapters” of her life, kicking off as a university college in Oslo, detailing her interactions with friends, lovers and family, jobs, love and sex; every vitally important topic and connection people have in their twenties and thirties.
Noted as one of the best films of 2022 by JOE’s very own Rory Cashin, this Norwegian flick is one not to be missed if you’re up late tonight.
The Shape of Water – Film Four – 1.25am
Oscar-winning fantasy drama directed by Guillermo del Toro about a woman who falls in love with a fishy creature.
