Movies on TV tonight

There are actually quite a few really good spy movies on TV tonight, for some reason…

If you’re in the movie for a film this evening, Amazon Prime Video has just added 11 big films to its library. But if none of those tickle your fancy, here are all of the movies on TV tonight that you can choose from, starting with…

Hampstead – FilmFour – 6.55pm

Brendan Gleeson and Diane Keaton star in this cute but forgettable romantic drama about two people on opposite ends of the socio-economic scale who fall in love with each other.

The Man With The Golden Gun – ITV4 – 9pm

One of the worst Bond movies, with Roger Moore’s 007 being hunted by Christoper Lee’s Scaramanga, aka one of the best contract killers on the planet.

Exit Wounds – TCM – 9pm

The action thriller that almost – ALMOST – brought Steven Seagal back into the Hollywood spotlight. But then he ruined it all again with everything he made after this one.

Hitman – FilmFour – 9pm

The first of the big screen adaptations of the hit video games series. Timothy Olyphant is very well cast, but everything else about this movie simply isn’t very good.

The Ipcress File – BBC Four – 9pm

Considered to be one of the very best spy movies ever made, Michael Caine plays a British secret agent Harry Palmer who is assigned to the case of a missing scientist. It is the first of two Harry Palmer movies playing back-to-back tonight…

Funeral in Berlin – BBC Four – 10.45pm

… with the second taking place in, yep, you guessed it, Berlin. This one revolves around Palmer attempting to smuggle a defecting Russian agent back to England via the Berlin Wall. It’s good, but not as good as the first one.

The Mustang – FilmFour – 10.50pm

A brilliant and emotional drama about a former prisoner (Matthias Schoenaerts) who is chosen for a specific rehabilitation therapy that requires him to train a wild mustang .

Demolition Man – TCM – 11.10pm

Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes and Sandra Bullock star in this OTT, bonkers but still very entertaining sci-fi action comedy thriller.

A Most Wanted Man – FilmFour – 12.45am

Our main pick out of the movies on TV tonight is this brilliant, low-key, mostly undiscovered gem of a spy movie, revolving around a Muslim refugee from Chechnya, who attempts to build a new life in Hamburg, only to become the primary suspect in a terrorist attack. The late, great Phillip Seymour Hoffman headlines a tremendous cast including Willem Dafoe, Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright and Daniel Bruhl.

Love and Bullets – Virgin Media Three – 1.15am

Charles Bronson stars in this odd action thriller about a US police officer sent to Switzerland (!?) to abduct a mobster’s mistress (!?!?) so she can testify in court against him.

The Keeping Room – Channel 4 – 2.15am

Brit Marling, Hailee Steinfeld and Sam Worthington star in decent but tough watch American Civil War drama.
