Movies on TV Wednesday 15 September

The mid-point of the week is here.

Rejoice.

The weekend is in sight.

Before that, some movies to consider.

Here’s what we have for your viewing pleasure this Wednesday, 15 September…

The Karate Kid – Film4 – 6.15pm

Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith edition.

Wild Rose – Film4 – 9pm

Our main pick this evening sees Irish actress Jessie Buckley break out as an aspiring country singer struggling to take hold of her life. The great Julie Walters provides company in this strong coming-of-age drama.

Blood Father – TCM – 9pm

Whatever your feelings on Mel Gibson the human being, it’s hard to deny that he still boasts a highly commanding screen presence.

That’s very much the case here in this under-seen thriller as Gibson’s ex-con fights to save his daughter from cartel villains.

Hellboy – ITV4 – 10pm

Not to be confused with the utterly horrific 2019 reboot of the same name, Guillermo Del Toro’s take on the Mike Mignola graphic novel is alive with wonder, invention, decent humour and a terrific lead performance from Ron Perlman as the titular demon with a heart of gold out to stop the end of the world.

Ghost Ship – TCM – 10.50pm

A silly but kind of fun horror that at least offers up one fantastic – and extremely gruesome – set piece.

The Boss – Film4 – 11.05pm

Yet another ‘hilarious’ Melissa McCarthy comedy vehicle.

Everest – Channel 4 – 12.55am

Star-studded disaster drama that’ll keep you awake if you are indeed still awake at one in the morning.

Snowden – Film4 – 1.05am

Seriously, who is in charge of scheduling these semi-decent films so late at night? Joseph Gordon-Levitt does his Edward Snowden impression, if you’re interested.
