Boys From County Hell

Your Saturday evening movie menu has arrived!

If you’re in a movie mood this Saturday, you’ll be happy to hear that Netflix has just added 12 big movies to its library. But if none of those suit, here are all of the movies on your telly this evening:

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King – Sky Showcase – 8.30pm
The trilogy capper, effectively making this the greatest trilogy of movies of all time.

Broken City – AMC – 9pm
Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe star in this mediocre political thriller.

The River Wild – Legend – 9pm
When a family (headed by Meryl Streep) go white water rafting, their entire trip takes a turn when they cross paths with a group of dangerous criminals (headed by Kevin Bacon).

Passengers – FilmFour – 9pm
An interesting mess of a movie, with Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence as two passengers on a space ship who are accidentally awoken way too early.

Scary Movie – Comedy Central – 9pm
What if Scream, but was just a comedy? Some of the jokes have aged like milk, but some others are still pretty funny.

The Hangover – RTÉ2 – 9.20pm
A missing persons mystery disguised as a comedy, as a group of pals on a bachelor party in Las Vegas lose the groom after a night of too much partying.

The Accountant – RTÉ One – 9.25pm
Ben Affleck is an autistic accountant assassin in this odd but entertaining thriller.

Calendar Girls – TG4 – 9.30pm
Helen Mirren and Julie Walters headline a cast for this based-on-a-true-story comedy about a group of women who pose nude for a calendar in order to raise funds for a local hospital.

Knives Out – Channel 4 – 9.30pm
Writer/director Rian Johnson helped to revitalise the murder-mystery genre thanks to this ingeniously plotted comedy starring Daniel Craig, Ana De Armas, Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis and loads more.

Fury – ITV4 – 10pm
Brad Pitt fronts this tense WWII action thriller mostly set in or around the confines of a single tank.

Dangerous Minds – MTV – 10pm
The iconic 90s drama sees a teacher (Michelle Pfeiffer) try to reach the students of her English class using unique teaching methods.

Superbad – BBC One – 11.05pm
Three best friends attempt to buy alcohol for a house party. Everything that can go wrong, goes wrong in the most hilarious way possible.

Boys From County Hell – FilmFour – 11.15pm

Our big pick tonight is Boys From County Hell, a great movie for the lead-up to Halloween, and a pretty big Irish horror comedy. Scoring 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie tells the story of a group of road workers who accidentally awaken an ancient vampire, who then proceeds to bring bloody chaos to the local sleepy village. If you miss it on TV tonight, Boys From County Hell is available to rent on Rakuten TV, Apple TV, Google Play and the Sky Store.

Along Came Polly – RTÉ2 – 11.20pm
Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston feature in this likeable romantic comedy.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit – Channel 4 – 12.05am
A decently entertaining spy action thriller starring Chris Pine, Kevin Costner, Keira Knightley and Kenneth Branagh.

The Turning – RTÉ One – 12.55am
A young woman (Mackenzie Davis) takes the job as a nanny for two young kids in an isolated mansion. Creepy things start to happen almost immediately. The creepiest being this movie has 12% on Rotten Tomatoes.
