A perfect watch at home in the lead up to Halloween.
Released in cinemas this summer, The Boogeyman arrived on the very same day as arguably 2023's best movie so far, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse. So chances are you missed it completely on the big screen, and why the movie was a medium-but-not-massive box office success.
Thankfully, now you have the chance to remedy that issue, and you can check out the movie that was so scary that it needed to be re-edited to bring the scare levels down. (Yes, that is a true story.)
Based on a Stephen King story, The Boogeyman tells the story of teenage girl Sadie (Sophie Thatcher - Yellowjackets) and her younger sister Sawyer (Vivien Lyra Blair), who are still reeling from the recent tragic death of their mother. However, when they both begin to notice an evil presence in their home, they must convince their grieving father (Chris Messina) that they're all in danger before it is too late for them all...
Audiences watching The Boogeyman had quite the reaction
Upon release, the movie wasn't a massive critical success - it scored a middling 60% on Rotten Tomatoes - but everyone agreed that when the scares do arrive, you won't be able to help but be creeped out and/or jump out of your seat in fright:
Paste - "The Boogeyman thrives on the implied thing that’s lurking in every corner, which makes it a very effective, intimate creepshow."
Empire - "An involving, ungimmicky ghost story with perfectly constructed menace and mayhem."
The A.V. Club - "These are jump scares done right, where the struggle to see what’s there is much more effective than any cheap lurch into frame."
The Boogeyman is available to watch on Disney+ right now.

The six-part show, which first aired on Channel 5 in the UK, is based on CL Skelton’s best-selling series of novels The Hardacre Saga and […]
The film has been described as ‘Eraserhead meets The Legend of Zelda’. OBEX, a very cool and unique new sci-fi movie, is available to rent and buy to watch at home now.
