The most shocking ending in cinema history is among the movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

Mist

A pretty decent Tuesday night movie menu, if we do say so ourselves…

As we get closer and closer to Halloween, more and more spooky movies are on your TV, and there are SIX to choose from tonight! But don’t worry, if you’re not a horror mood, there are dramas and comedies and sci-fi action to choose from too…

The Imitation Game – RTÉ2 – 9pm
Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Alan Turing in the real-life WWII dramatic thriller about the mathematical genius who helped turn the tide of the war, only to be scrutinised once aspects of his private life are made public.

Resident Evil – Sky Showcase – 9pm
The first good (?) adaptation of a video game. Discuss.

The Mist – FilmFour – 9pm

Our pick for tonight is The Mist, the movie with the infamously shocking ending that sent everyone who seen it staggering from the cinema in sheer disbelief. We recently wrote about the movie’s ending for its 15th anniversary (you can read it here, but beware, spoilers!), but as for everything that comes before, this Stephen King adaptation tells the story of a sleepy town under siege from a swarm of creatures that are emerging from a mysterious mist. If you miss it tonight, The Mist is also available to watch on Prime Video.

Scary Movie – Comedy Central – 9pm
Remember when they do The Matrix? And then they do the Riverdance? Timeless horror references.

Us – BBC Three – 10pm
Jordan Peele’s follow-up to modern horror classic Get Out is a big swing into the sci-fi field, with the world waking up to discover they are under attack from their own doppelgängers.

Universal Soldier – AMC – 10.40pm
One of the best Jean-Claude Van Damme movies. Admittedly, that isn’t saying too much, but this one is genuinely good craic.

Saw V – Sky Max – 11pm
The fifth one. The one with the Pendulum Trap.

1408 – FilmFour – 11.25pm
John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson headline this Stephen King adaptation about a haunted hotel room. Its good fun if not exactly terrifying.

Pacific Heights – Legend – 12.45am
A classic neighbour-from-hell thriller starring Michael Keaton.

What Men Want – Channel 4 – 1.15am
A woman (Taraji P. Henson) finds she can suddenly hear men’s inner thoughts, and she uses this to get ahead in her male-dominated business. An okay-ish comedy.
