An underrated Irish crime thriller is among the movies on TV tonight

It features a stunning performance from an Irish Oscar nominee.

It’s Sunday, the weather isn’t great and it’s been a long Paddy’s weekend. There’s no better time to pick out a good movie on TV tonight and chill out before the new week starts.

The good news is that there’s an excellent variety on the box later and we’ve picked out our favourites for tonight. Our choice for later is a brilliant modern Irish crime flick, featuring Barry Keoghan in one of his more sinister roles.

So get looking and pick out one of the many great movies that catch your eye for tonight.

Sister Act – Channel 4 – 5.50 pm

Whoopie Goldberg poses as chaste nun Sister Mary Clarence while under witness protection in this comedy alongside Harvey Keitel, Maggie Smith, Bill Nunn and Kathy Najimy.

Legally Blonde – ITV2 – 7.05 pm

Reese Witherspoon stars in this classic comedy as Elle Woods, who enrols herself at Harvard in order to prove her ex-boyfriend wrong after he insults her intelligence.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – E4 – 7.45 pm

Harrison Ford returns as the adventuring archaeologist in this 2008 instalment of the classic movie franchise. Indie goes up against the Soviet KGB aided by his former lover Marion Ravenwood. Ray Winstone, John Hurt, and Jim Broadbent make up the supporting cast.

Cast Away – Film4 – 9 pm

WILSON! Tom Hanks stars as an office manager who gets left stranded on a deserted island in the middle of the ocean after a plane crash.

A Bronx Tale – Great! Movies – 9 pm

Robert DeNiro stars as an honest, hard-working bus driver who watches helplessly as his teenage son falls under the spell of a smooth-talking, sharp-suited gangster and is gradually drawn deeper into the criminal underworld.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day – ITV4 – 9 pm

Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as the reprogrammed killing machine. In this sequel, he is sent back in time to the 20th century to protect John Connor, a teenage boy whose destiny is to save the human race.

John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum – E4 – 10.05 pm

The seemingly invincible hero returns, this time with a $14million bounty on his head which rises each hour, and every underworld figure around the world desperate to cash in. A great time to catch up ahead of the release of Chapter 4 later this month.

Calm With Horses – Film4 – 11.50 pm

Our pick for tonight is this gritty and incredibly well-acted Irish crime drama from 2019.

Criminally underrated, Calm with Horses stars Cosmo Jarvis as an ex-boxer who works as an enforcer for a criminal family in rural Ireland while providing for his autistic son.

Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan has another stormer of a performance here.

Hell or High Water – Channel 4 – 12.50 am

Chris Pine and Ben Foster star in this Western drama as two bank robbers embarking on a meticulously planned crime spree, pursued by two veteran Texas Rangers played by Jeff Bridges and Gil Birmingham.
