Paddy’s Day has come and gone and we start another new week. But the weather is still a bit crap and doesn’t seem to be getting any better any time soon. So if you’re staying at home this evening for a cosy night in, why not check out some of the great movies on TV tonight?

There’s a superb choice of comedy, action and sci-fi on tonight, so you won’t be stuck for choice. Our pick includes one of Saoirse Ronan’s best performances to date in a brilliant comedy-drama on TG4.

My Super Ex-Girlfriend – Film4 – 7.05 pm

This 2006 comedy starring Luke Wilson and Uma Thurman follows a regular guy who dumps a superhero for her neediness, only for her to use her powers to make his life a living hell.

Speed – ITV4 -9 pm

Starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, Speed follows an LAPD cop who discovers a psychotic criminal has planted a bomb on a crowded bus, primed to go off if the vehicle drops below 50mph. He boards the vehicle and helps a hapless passenger who has been forced to take the wheel and keep a constant speed to avoid a disaster.

Deadpool – Film4 – 9 pm

The foul-mouthed superhero played by Ryan Reynolds is on the box tonight and well worth a watch. This 2016 flick follows a wisecracking mercenary setting out to track down the man who experimented on him.

Judge Dredd – Great! Movies – 9 pm

A law enforcer in a post-apocalyptic city is framed for a series of crimes committed by a fugitive who shares his DNA. He escapes while being taken to prison and returns to hunt down the culprit and clear his own name. 1995 Sci-fi adventure starring Sylvester Stallone.

Lady Bird – TG4 – 9.30 pm

Our pick for tonight is a five-time Oscar nominee and Golden Globe-winning 2017 flick starring our very own Saoirse Ronan. Set in Sacramento, California from fall 2002 to fall 2003, the film tells the story of a high school senior and her strained relationship with her mother.

The movie was Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut and is regularly slated as one of the best films of the decade. Ronan won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for her titular role. Timothée Chalamet and Laurie Metcalf support.

The Perfect Storm – Turner Classic Movies – 11 pm

George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Diane Lane, John C Reilly and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio all star in this disaster film about a fishing boat crew getting caught in the worst storm of the 20th century after they ignore severe weather warnings and head for a dangerous area of the North Atlantic.

The Dirty Dozen – ITV4 – 11.25 pm

Charles Bronson stars in this 1967 movie about an uncompromising major placed in charge of a top-secret operation, Project Amnesty, a seemingly suicidal mission to destroy a French chateau being used as a base by Nazi officers.
