PIC: Netflix share first-look at Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown

The Crown Olivia Colman

The Crown Season 3 will be like nothing we’ve seen before. Literally.

After spending the first two seasons focusing on the early years of Queen Elizabeth II’s rule, Season 3 will skip forward and cover 1964-76.

As such, the show has taken the major gamble of replacing major cast members. Matt Smith, who had been playing Prince Phillip, has been replaced by Tobias Menzies from Game of Thrones. The Queen had been portrayed by Claire Foy, but that role has now gone to Olivia Colman — famous for her roles in Broadchurch and Peep Show.

Helena Bonham Carter will play Princess Margaret.

Filming begins this month for Season 3, so there’s no trailer yet — but today, Netflix issued their first teaser by posting a photo of Olivia Colman in her new role, alongside the caption: “Patience.”

Cheeky divils.

There’s no release date set yet for the third season of the popular drama series.
