Netflix quietly adds 12 big movies to its library

A dozen additions to the Netflix library this week!

If you’re in a movie mood, Netflix has been adding some great (and, admittedly, some not-so-great) movies to its service in the last few days. Here are the ones to watch… or avoid…

AMBUSH

Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight) and Jonathan Rhys Meyers (M:I-3) star in this gritty Vietnam war movie. 25% on Rotten Tomatoes doesn’t bode super well, though…

A-X-L

A specially designed robotic dog develops a strong relationship with a new human companion, but things take a turn when the dog’s creators come looking for it. Coincidentally, also has 25% on Rotten Tomatoes…

BLACKFISH

A tremendous documentary which takes a look at killer whales being kept in captivity in theme parks like Sea World, and the violent impact that has on both the whales and their trainers.

CHALET GIRL

A very likeable rom-com in which a young woman (Felicity Jones) must decide between her new job or the dangerous sport she loves so much.

COLLIDE

A very impressive cast feature in this action thriller, with Nicholas Hoult, Anthony Hopkins, Ben Kingsley and Felicity Jones (hi again!) caught up in a constantly double-crossing drug deal gone wrong. 24% on Rotten Tomatoes. Yeesh.

THE FAMILY

Robert De Niro is the mafia boss, Michelle Pfeiffer is his wife, and both they and their kids are taken into the witness protection program after snitching on their former crime partners. But they find it difficult to give up their old way of life…

MONDAY

Sebastian Stan and Denise Gough star as two people who have a one night stand while on holiday in Greece, and neither are fully sure how to navigate the aftermath.

PAIN & GAIN

The Rock, Mark Wahlberg and Anthony Mackie star in Michael Bay’s heist action comedy thriller (all of the genres!). One of the biggest examples ever of either “You’ll LOVE it or you’ll HATE it”.

SHOW DOGS

A police dog goes undercover at a dog show to crack a pet smuggling ring. Kids might love, but also don’t blame us if it goes wrong and they end up hating you for it.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE

A war drama in which an American soldier (Miles Teller) returns home after serving 15 months in Iraq, and finds it incredibly difficult to adjust to regular life.

TRACKS

A very good drama in which a woman (Mia Wasikowska) craves solitude, embarking on a huge trek across the Australian outback with nothing more than camels and a dog for company.

UP IN THE AIR

We reckon this could be George Clooney’s best movie, leading a darkly comic drama about a man who has successfully compartmentalised his life to such an extent, he doesn’t realise how lonely he has become.
