The documentary series will arrive on Netflix later in June.
On top of the Sky documentary series being directed by Jim Sheridan (which will arrive this week), as well as an adaptation of the West Cork podcast series from the folks behind HBO's Chernobyl, Netflix also has their own documentary series looking into the death of Sophie Toscan du Plantier.
Sophie: A Murder in West Cork comes from the Oscar-winning producer Simon Chinn (Man On Wire, Searching For Sugarman) and was filmed in West Cork, as well as other locations around Ireland and France.
Netflix's official synopsis for the new series is as follows:
"This three-part series examines one of Ireland’s most famous murder cases, the death of French producer Sophie Toscan du Plantier in the town of Schull, West Cork in 1996. The brutal murder, which shocked the country, triggered one of the biggest murder investigations Ireland had ever seen and became a national obsession.
"The documentary will chart the circumstances of her death, unravelling the extraordinary story from its beginning, 24 years ago to the present day. With exclusive access to Sophie Toscan du Plantier’s family, the series will bring together, for the first time, the views of her family with Ian Bailey, the man at the centre of the investigation."
Recently, Ian Bailey stated that he believes this Netflix documentary will be "a piece of demonisation".
All three episodes of Sophie: A Murder in West Cork will arrive on Netflix on Wednesday, 30 June.
