New Netflix series puts sexy singles together on an island, challenges them to go without sex for $100k prize

“Is blue balls a real thing?”

The popularity of Love Island in recent years has not been lost on people in television, who can see the appeal to audiences of putting a load of good-looking people together in an exotic place and letting the hormones fly.

Netflix’s new series, Too Hot to Handle, is a lot like Love Island in that it is set in a luxurious location and features participants who clearly have a healthy sexual appetite, but it also comes with a simple and, one might say, devastating, twist.

If any of the contestants want to come away with the grand prize of $100,000, they have to abstain from sex.

That prospect might sound difficult enough on paper, but if the first trailer does anything, it well and truly paints a picture of just how excruciating it is going to be for the participants, one of whom appears to have a strong Irish accent.

If in any doubt, see three quotes taken from the trailer, lasting one minute and 47 seconds, below:

“Is blue balls a real thing?”

“We need to control ourselves.”

“Everyone’s so horny”

It won’t be to everyone’s tastes, but something tells us this would have been popular even if everyone wasn’t confined to their homes in constant need of something new and exciting to watch and our current circumstances are only likely to increase its appeal to audiences.

Too Hot to Handle arrives on Netflix on 17 April.
