Netflix’s most beloved true crime documentary of 2017 is returning for another season

Paul Moore

Netflix

96% on Rotten Tomatoes and incredibly addictive.

Whenever a film or genre becomes incredibly popular, the inevitable parody is never far behind. Airplane! spoofed the disaster films that were popular during the ’70s, Austin Powers took the mickey out of James Bond and the Scary Movie franchise stuck a knife into the slasher genre.

Good satire is bloody hilarious and if you’ve been watching American Vandal on Netflix, it’s very likely that you’ll never look at a true crime documentary in the same way.

Given the fact that Netflix has been instrumental in the rise of this genre – Making A Murderer, The Confession Tapes and The Keepers being a few examples – it’s only fitting that they’re also responsible for the finest satire of the true crime genre.

The documentary focuses on the “real story” of a high school prank that left twenty-seven cars vandalised with pictures of penises drawn all over them. Scandal, lies, and mystery surrounds this “horrific crime” as the new student Peter Maldonado is left trying to uncover one important truth, who drew the dicks?

The eight-episode series has received some remarkable reviews – you can read them here – and we’re delighted to say that a new season is coming to Netflix.

The teaser trailer has been released and with a new case that’s yet to be solved, we’re all wondering if you can be born above the law?

Can the creators top the first season? That mystery is yet to be solved.
