New Oscar-tipped drama could be the next Spotlight

Stephen Porzio

It depicts two New York Times reporters’ efforts to break the story of Harvey Weinstein’s sexual misconduct allegations.

After reaching the halfway point of 2022, now is the time when film fans start to seriously predict what movies they will be hearing a lot of when award season rolls around.

One of the most anticipated titles this year in that respect is She Said, which unveiled its first trailer this week and looks sure to draw plenty of comparisons to 2015 Oscar Best Picture winner Spotlight.

Based on the 2019 book of the same name by New York Times journalists Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey, the film centres on the pair (who are played by Zoe Kazan and Carey Mulligan) and the work they did to break the story of Harvey Weinstein’s sexual misconduct allegations.

One of the most important stories of recent years, the two’s work helped launch the #MeToo movement and shatter decades of silence around the subject of sexual assault in Hollywood.

Directed by Maria Schrader (I’m Your Man, Unorthodox) and written by Rebecca Lenkiewicz (Colette, Disobedience), the film co-stars Andre Braugher (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty), Patricia Clarkson (Sharp Objects), Peter Friedman (Succession), Samantha Morton (In America) and Tom Pelphrey (Ozark).

She Said is set for an Irish release on 18 November, 2022. Until then, you can check out the trailer below.
