A must-watch for fans of scary movies.

M. Night Shyamalan is one of the few directors today who has a name that is completely synonymous with the type of movie he makes, to the point where similar movies made by other directors are referred to as “Shyamalan-esque”.

He has been successfully creeping audiences out for over two decades now thanks to the likes of The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, The Village, The Visit and Split, not to mention his shows like Wayward Pines and Servant.

And just like all of those projects, his latest movie Old has a killer hook, and is now available to watch at home with your NOW Cinema Membership.

As we mentioned, the hook is killer: a group of holiday-makers are told about a beautiful, isolated beach and they all head there together, only to discover that they can’t seem to find a way off the beach, as something supernatural is somehow keeping them there.

And on top of that, everyone on the beach is ageing at a rapid, terrifying speed…

M. Night Shyamalan has amassed an fantastic cast, including Gael Garcia Bernal (Mozart in the Jungle), Thomas McKenzie (Last Night in Soho), Rufus Sewell (The Holiday), Alex Wolff (Hereditary), Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread), Abbey Lee (Lovecraft Country), Eliza Scanlen (Sharp Objects) and Ken Leung (Lost).

When it was first released, some high-profile critics had nothing but great things to say about the movie:

The Guardian – “This is just very enjoyable and I was on the edge of my seat, not knowing whether to flinch or laugh, though I did both.”

The New Yorker – “Shyamalan has created a splendid throwback of a science-fiction thriller that develops a simple idea with stark vigor and conveys the straight-faced glee of realizing the straightforward logic of its enticing absurdity.”

Rolling Stone – “This is a credibly old-fashioned movie in some ways, a creature feature with something more diffuse than a “creature,” per se, a monster movie in which the monster is an unlucky pairing of longitude and latitude.”

Old is available to watch with your NOW Cinema Membership from Friday, 4 March, and you can check out our chat with M. Night Shyamalan about Old right here:
