One of the major characters from Modern Family is set to be killed off this season
The cast of Modern Family has lasted almost ten seasons but that good run is coming to an end as the co-creator has announced that a "significant character" will die in the current season.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, co-creator Christopher Lloyd said the show is "handling some bigger life events" in season 10, including a death.
"We’re handling some bigger life events in this season," he told the magazine. "We do deal with a death, which is certainly a topic that families have to deal with, and on television, it’s not easy to do because that’s a heavy subject. But at the same time, it would seem unusual for a family not to go through it."
Lloyd would not reveal who the character is, but said it's a significant character and their death will impact several episodes of season 10.
“[The death] will be a moving event, and an event that has repercussions across several episodes,” he said.
When questioned whether the show would continue after season 10, Lloyd rolled back slightly on an interview last year where he said the show could come to an end.
“There’s goodwill on both sides to make it happen" Lloyd said. "But there’s also complicated matters that have to get worked through, and there’s a time constraint on it, because we can’t have it take too long."I’m hoping that that doesn’t make the whole thing go away, but I think there’s a decent chance we’ll see it happen."
