movies on tv 8 august

A powerful war film.

We hope you don’t have a case of the Mondays today.

Especially as the nights are set to be “uncomfortably warm” this week with the weather.

But you know what goes really well with an ice cold drink?

A really good film.

Here’s JOE’s top picks for the best movies on your TV this Monday (8 August).

Shaun of the Dead – ITV4 – 9pm

The perfect zombie movie to watch with a Cornetto in hand.

Oblivion – Great! Movies – 9pm

Tom Cruise is great in this. The rest of the film… not so much.

Taken 3 – Film4 – 9pm

The third and final act in the Taken trilogy.

Disturbing The Peace – Great! Movies Action – 9pm

Guy Pearce himself described the film as “abysmal”, and he’s the lead star. That has to be worth a watch, right?

Pitch Perfect – RTÉ2 – 9pm

Just in time for the film’s tenth anniversary next month.

Hacksaw Ridge – TG4 – 9.30pm

Our top pick for tonight is a powerful war flick with a star-making performance from Andrew Garfield.

The film tells the true story of Desmond Doss, a US Army medic in World War II who is a total pacifist.

Garfield plays the medic, receiving his first Oscar nomination for his stunning performance.

The film won two Oscars in the end for Sound and Editing, but it’s Garfield’s performance you won’t forget. A great watch.

The Hard Corps – Great! Movies Action – 10.50pm

Get it? The “Hard Corps”? Hardcore? Oh, I give up.

Maniac – Horror Channel – 11pm

You’ve seen unlikable protagonists, but have you ever seen a horror movie from the murderer’s perspective?

Ocean’s Eleven – Turner Classic Movies – 11pm

The George Clooney version.

Tulip Fever – BBC Two – 11.15pm

“I gotta fever… and the only cure… is more tulips.”

The Little Stranger – Film4 – 11.15pm

Domhnall Gleeson and Will Poulter star in this very creepy period piece.

Push – Great! Movies – 11.25pm

It’s like if you bought an X-Men DVD in Eurosavers.
