“People on the internet are very funny.”
Paul Mescal has been on the press circuit for his new romantic drama All of Us Strangers and appears to be having a lot of fun promoting the acclaimed movie.
Last Friday, he and his co-star Andrew Scott appeared on The Late Late Show where the Normal People actor regaled audiences with the tale of his father dancing with (or nearby) Cher at the Oscars.
And more recently, during an appearance on Radio 1’s All Day Breakfast with Greg James, Mescal broke into laughter when presented with some of the more popular memes created about him.
One of the glorious memes, which can be viewed below, is a photo of Matt Bomer, Andrew Scott, Jonathan Bailey and Mescal with the caption: “The Hobbits after the shire got a Zara.”

Paul Mescal memes
Already aware of the meme before James highlighted it, Mescal said laughing: “I mean, we look so unbelievably short.”
When the presenter pointed out that the All of Us Strangers star is “not a short man”, he replied: “This photo doesn’t do anything to discredit that theory.”
James than noted that the reason the four actors in the image look so small is because of the angle the image was taken at.
Responding, Mescal said: “I mean, it doesn’t do any of us any favours but particularly Andrew I would say in this setting.”

Also on the programme, Mescal was presented with several memes surrounding the widely-circulated photos of him in GAA shorts.
During the segment, which can be watched below, the actor stated: “People on the internet are very funny.”

In other news about the Irish actor, he – along with his fellow countrymen Andrew Scott and Barry Keoghan – sadly missed out on Oscar nominations on Tuesday.
Mescal was passed over in the Best Supporting Actor category for his performance in All of Us Strangers in favour of Sterling K. Brown (American Fiction), Robert De Niro (Killers of the Flower Moon), Robert Downey Jr. (Oppenheimer), Ryan Gosling (Barbie) and Mark Ruffalo (Poor Things).
