WATCH: The Punisher has been set free in the first look at Season 2

The release date has been revealed, and it is very soon!

Truth be told, this new teaser doesn’t give an awful lot away.

Frank Castle burning up his Presidential pardon, the ashes left in the infamous symbol, in what looks like a particularly run down bar, with some weirdly happy country music over the whole thing.

We don’t even see his face!

It does play into a set visit that we reported on in the last few days, in which reporters discovered that The Punisher Season 2 would be the first of Netflix’s Marvel characters to “not begin in New York City. Instead, Frank Castle is touring the United States. Getting a look at the country he fought for but has never really seen”.

Additionally, the villain of the sophomore season is an alt-right Christian fundamentalist.

While everyone had anticipated the season to go in a different direction following the events of the first season, it turns out that Frank’s old buddy turned enemy Billy Russo hasn’t fully embraced the whole Jigsaw thing yet, so he’ll contend with a different big bad – a man by the name of John Pilgrim.

Pilgrim is played by Josh Stewart, who has popped up in the likes of The Dark Knight Rises, The Collector and Interstellar as well as the TV adaptation of Shooter.

And in case you’re wondering… nope, Pilgrim doesn’t appear in the teaser either. But we’re guessing that he is hinted at with that creepy country music.

According to the Netflix Twitter account for the Middle East and North Africa, The Punisher Season 2 will be arriving on the streaming service on Friday 18 January.
