“The Raid meets Tangled” plus 4 more movies & shows to watch this weekend

Rory Cashin

What could be 2022’s biggest box office hit arrives this week…

Welcome to the first week of July! We’ve got a lot of new stuff to watch!

To kick things off, here are the movies which will all be available on the big screens around Ireland from Friday, 1 July.

MINIONS: THE RISE OF GRU

The sequel to the prequel. The first Minions movie (not to be confused with the first Despicable Me movie) puts the little yellow devils in the path of a young Gru, and this movie picks up from that, as we see the first steps of what will eventually become one of the world’s greatest supervillains.

Back in 2015, Minions made $1.159 billion. This could do even better.

And now on to the stuff you can watch at home this week, starting with…

THE PRINCESS

It is a fairytale as old as time… a princess turns down a marriage proposal from a cruel suitor, so she is kidnapped and kept in the top of a tower. The difference here is that the princess is also a warrior, so she begins the long battle to freedom. The Raid meets Tangled, basically.

The movie is available to watch on Disney+ from Friday, 1 July.

THE TERMINAL LIST

This action-thriller series comes from the director of Training Day, with Chris Pratt starring as the leader of a squad of Navy SEALs who were ambushed while on a covert mission. Upon returning home, he discovers he has some conflicting memories of the events of the mission, and begins to suspect both he and his loved ones are in imminent danger.

All eight episodes will be available to watch on Amazon Prime Video from Friday, 1 July.

STRANGER THINGS SEASON FOUR VOLUME TWO

The finale to this season gives fans two more episodes. One of those episodes is 85 minutes. The other is 150 minutes!

The two new episodes will be available to watch on Netflix from Friday, 1 July.

KING RICHARD

Will Smith won the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in this biopic drama about the father of Venus and Serena Williams, who tackles some incredible obstacles while turning his daughters into two of the greatest athletes in history.

The movie is available to watch with a NOW Cinema Membership from Friday, 1 July.

Clips via Hulu, Prime Video, Netflix, Illumination & Warner Bros.
