And it looks like he gets schooled by his date in the process.

It seems that RTÉ is pulling out all the stops with this week’s daters, as one of their own is stepping up to the plate and gracing the cameras in the name of love.

Amongst other RTÉ projects, Pat O’Mahony will be familiar to fans of the show Head To Toe, which ran during the late eighties and early nineties.

We here at JOE have also had recent dealings with Pat and can confirm that he is a thoroughly nice man indeed.

Head To Toe, the height of Irish TV at the time, was described as a “mix of everything to do with clothes, people, the rag trade in general, personalities, swap shops, the nostalgia scene, people’s private collections, country shopping and dressing and budgets and even problems”.

And now fans of the show can relive the glory days of Irish fashion telly, as O’Mahony returns to our screens on Tuesday night in a bid to find love.

In a clip released by production company COCO Television, the 56-year-old is seen showcasing his musical knowledge when chatting about the likes of The Clash and The Smiths.

However, his slip-up is his date’s gain as she ends up schooling him on eighties rock lyric knowledge.

For those of you who need reminding who Pat is, perhaps a clip of his former work may rejig your memory.

Yes indeed, O’Mahony has come a long way since the days of overseeing makeovers in Irish shopping centres.

Let’s hope he still has that maroon blazer.

First Dates Ireland airs on Tuesday night on RTÉ 2 at 9.30pm.
