The series drops on Netflix in April.

The teaser trailer has dropped for the new Netflix series, Ripley, starring Irish actor Andrew Scott – and it could be just the tonic needed for Saltburn fans.

Based on the 1955 Patricia Highsmith novel The Talented Mr. Ripley, some might be already familiar with its movie adaptation starring Jude Law, Matt Damon and Gwyneth Paltrow.

The upcoming psychological thriller series looks like a sleeker edition compared to the 1999 film, and will no doubt be of interest to Saltburn fans, as it focuses on similar themes to Emerald Fennell’s 2023 film, such as high society, manipulation and obsession.

According to Netflix’s synopsis of the series, “Tom Ripley, a grifter scraping by in early 1960s New York, is hired by a wealthy man to travel to Italy to try to convince his vagabond son to return home.

“Tom’s acceptance of the job is the first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud and murder. The drama is based on Patricia Highsmith’s bestselling Tom Ripley novels.

In the black and white trailer for the show, which also stars Johnny Flynn and Dakota Fanning, Tom is told, “You’re a very hard man to find. No address. Phone. Office.”

Directed and written by Steven Zaillian, who most recently penned Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, Scott is also serving as a producer on the show.

Scott is already having a busy year, starring alongside fellow Irish star Paul Mescal in the romantic fantasy film All of Us Strangers, which releases at the end of January.

The Fleabag star has also been nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in the film, as well as being tipped for an Oscar nod this year.

All eight episodes of Ripley drop on Netflix on April 4.
