WATCH: This is how The Connors killed off Roseanne in their new show

Rory Cashin

The Roseanne-less spin-off debuted on US TV on Tuesday night.

After hiatus lasting a couple of decades, Roseanne was brought back to TV last year, and actually became one of the biggest ratings hits of the decade.

The success was soon derailed when, just one week following that season’s finale, the show was cancelled by parent company ABC, following a backlash to Roseanne Barr’s tweets about a former aide to Barack Obama, which they described as “abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values.”

However, the show must go on, and ABC went ahead with a Roseanne-less version of the show, simply titled The Connors, with all of the remaining cast still in place, but the lead star written out of her own show.

The first episode aired on Tuesday night in the States (to some very decent reviews), but all eyes were on how they would deal with Roseanne’s exit.

For those who are interested, here is how that scene plays out:

The episode revolves around Roseanne’s funeral, and while the family initially seem to be informed that she had passed away from a heart attack, the coroner’s report reveals that she had actually died of an opioid overdose.

However, apparently, with her character being written out, some people confused the character Roseanne with the real-life person Roseanne, which the actress took to Twitter to clarify:
