Christopher Lloyd hints at what a potential Back to the Future 4 film could be about

Back to the Future 4

Great Scott!

When you’ve got a time machine, anything is possible. When you’ve got a studio keen to capitalise on nostalgia and the popular draw of certain franchises, reboots/remakes/sequels are inevitable.

However, 25 May 2020 will mark 30 years since we last saw Marty McFly and Doc Brown fire up the flux capacitor to hit 88mph and while rumours of a fourth film persist, Robert Zemeckis is steadfast in his belief that we won’t be going Back to the Future again.

To be honest, we’d be happy if they just left it at three because those films are as close to a perfect trilogy as you can get. Granted, Part III didn’t match what came before it but it’s still lots of fun.

One of the stars of the trilogy, Christopher Lloyd, has frequently said he’d be up for reprising his role as the eccentric Dr. Emmet Brown and during a recent Comic Con at Niagara Falls, according to comicbook.com, the actor gave his take on what could happen if there was a fourth movie in the series.

Again, it looks highly unlikely that we’re going to be seeing the DeLorean again, but it’s fun to speculate.

“I think somehow it needs to kind of convey a message about something that’s important to everyone, universally, like climate change,” Lloyd said.

“Some way of incorporating whatever fever is going on at the moment into the film and keep the feeling of one, two and three. That’s a tricky, tricky deal. Because you don’t want to do another one and disappoint. So I don’t know. I’d be happy to, for myself. But we’ll see.”

This isn’t the first time that Lloyd has mentioned climate change as a possible topic for the sequel.

In a 2015 interview with USA Today, he said: “There’s always the danger of sequels not living up to the original, so it’d have to be something momentous and current: dealing with ISIS or climate change or something radical and have a real urgency to it.”

If a fourth film does happen, we wonder how they can make Biff responsible for global warming? Mmm, maybe the most notorious bully in Hill Valley will get elected into The White House?

Great Scott!

In the immortal words of Doc Brown, if the next film is about climate change “you’re gonna see some serious shit”.
