Season 2 of Derry Girls looks set to return in March

Talks have also started about Season 3. Yes!

If you're feeling the post-Christmas blues, the reality that Derry Girls will be returning in 2019 should be the perfect pick-me-up.

As hard as it is to fathom, it has been exactly a year since Lisa McGee's wonderful show aired and since being released, the comedy has become a bonafide hit around the world.

Aside from smashing impressive records and delighting audiences, the show continues to find new fans especially since those lucky ducks in the US, Canada and elsewhere get to see it on Netflix.

At present, Channel 4 haven't released the official premiere date but over the festive period, Lisa McGee was a guest on The Nolan Show and she said that Season 2 has been earmarked for a March release.

"I love it. We're editing it now. It's better than Season 1, it's a bit more ambitious and because we know what we're doing a bit more, it's better," said McGee.

Regarding the premiere date, she said: "They're talking about March, early March. See, that's all Channel 4. That's when I think it will be released and we're talking about doing a third series. Hopefully, if the second one goes well and everything goes according to plan, we'll do a third series."

In an interview with Ian Dempsey on Today FM, Tommy Tiernan (Da Gerry) also said that Season 2 of the show will air in March.

"We finished filming the second series last Friday. That will go out in March and we're doing Season 3 and film, maybe. That's all up to Lisa (McGee) the writer, going off to a shed in London and coming up with all these stories. She's a genius, the amount of stories she's able to fit into each episode. It's fantastic," said Tiernan.

With regards to McGee, the whole interview is excellent as she chats about her career, the success of Derry Girls, and why the show has really resonated with audiences.

Aside from this, Nicola Coughlan also said that Season 2 "might even be more cracker than Season 1."

Who are we to argue with Clare?

Bring it on!
