Season 6 of House of Cards suspended “until further notice” in light of Kevin Spacey allegations

Spacey has been accused of making unwanted sexual advances towards a fellow actor.

Having previously announced that the show would end after season six, House of Cards has now been suspended indefinitely.

Streaming service Netflix and the production company behind House of Cards, Media Rights Capital, have decided to suspend the show indefinitely in light of allegations against one of the show’s main stars, Kevin Spacey.

Spacey, who plays Frank Underwood in the show, has been accused of making unwanted sexual advances towards fellow actor Anthony Rapp in 1986, when Rapp was just 14 years old and Spacey was 12 years his senior.

Having initially decided to pull the plug on the show at the end of season six, which had been in production, Netflix and Media Rights Capital have now decided to suspend it “until further notice”.

A joint statement issued by Netflix and Media Rights Capitol on Tuesday read: “MRC and Netflix have decided to suspend production on House of Cards season six, until further notice, to give us time to review the current situation and address any concerns of our cast and crew.”

On Monday, when announcing their intention to finish the show after the sixth season, Netflix and Media Rights Capital released a statement which read: “Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey.

“In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.”

Spacey, who was not on set on Monday when the announcement was made, stated on Monday that he did not remember the 1986 encounter but admitted that he was “horrified” by Rapp’s revelations.

“If I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior,” stated Spacey, who used his statement to reveal that he was choosing now to “live as a gay man”.
