Earlier this week we reported that HBO finally dropped some actual details about the upcoming Game Of Thrones prequel (well, one of them, anyways...), with the big info involving the cast, producers, and director of the pilot.
Said director is S.J. Clarkson, who has previously directed episodes for everything from Jessica Jones to Orange Is The New Black to Succession, and with that CV, it makes perfect sense that she would be picked up to take control of the new GOT show.
However, Clarkson had previously been announced as the director for the upcoming Star Trek 4, which would have seen Chris Hemsworth (aka Kirk Senior, aka Chris Pine's dad) return to the plot thanks to a mix of science and time-travel, in an attempt to reignite an interest in the series after 2016's Star Trek Beyond resulted in a very lacklustre performance at the box office.
So with Clarkson now out of the mix, it would appear the movie has been shelved, even if John Cho (who played Sulu in the three movies) would like there to be at least one more, telling Cinema Blend:
"I think its an important part of American popular culture that speaks to America's best impulses and I think that there will always be a place for Star Trek films and I just hope to be in it and there isn't another totally different group of people!
"I'm bullish about it, and honestly, for personal reasons I suppose the last film has a cloud over it, losing Anton [Yelchin] after the last one and for me it would be important personally to make one more at least. I think it would alleviate that part of us a little bit to make at least one more."
However, fans of Star Trek shouldn't fret, for several reasons:
Patrick Stewart recently announced that he will be returning to role of Jean-Luc Picard!
Michelle Yeoh will be headlining her own show as Captain Philippa Georgiou!
The makers of Gossip Girl and The O.C. are working on another show called Starfleet Academy!
One of the producers of Rick & Morty is behind a new animated show called Star Trek: Lower Decks!
There is still that long-running rumour that none other than Quentin Tarantino will be directing an upcoming Star Trek movie!
And finally, season 2 of Star Trek Discovery is arriving on Friday 18 January...
