Surprise surprise, the Toy Show was the most viewed TV programme of the year

Alan Loughnane

In fairness, it was fantastic this year…

You were probably one of the many people who tuned into The Late Late Toy Show this year, and let us say, we’re still a bit shook after watching such an emotional rollercoaster.

Between the stellar performances, the young Galway hurler meeting his heroes and reuniting a family with their father on live TV, we were feeling the same as everybody else.

More than 1.3 million people watched The Late Late Toy Show over the weekend making it the most watched programme on Irish television this year.

The audience peaked at 1.34 million viewers and the show had a reach of 1,732,500 viewers who tuned in for a minute or more of the broadcast. Nine out of ten children watching television on the night were tuned into The Late Late Toy Show.

But for those who missed it (and indeed some who had already seen it), the repeat show on Saturday proved to be very popular as well as it was watched by an average audience of 134,300 viewers.

RTÉ have said that last Friday night’s show is on course to become one of the top ten programmes on Irish television this century when full consolidated viewing figures are tallied next week.
