WATCH: The trailer for the new season of Homeland is here and it’s as chilling as you’d expect

It features Carrie being emotional. Of course it does.

After a much hyped debut season, Homeland has almost slipped under the radar compared to some other big-name TV shows in recent years.

Some would cite a noticeable decline in Season Three as the reason behind that, but fans who have stayed loyal to it have been rewarded as the fare was pretty top notch in the fourth and fifth seasons.

With the last season of the show having taken place in Berlin, Homeland moves to New York for its sixth season, where Carrie (Claire Danes) has begun working to provide aid to Muslims in the US.

Whenever Carrie is involved in something, complications seem to follow and that’s the case again here, with a Presidential election causing increased security concerns Stateside.

As well as Danes, series regulars Mandy Patinkin (Saul Berenson) and Rupert Friend (Peter Quinn… despite his brush with death in Season 5) are slated to return in the new season, while Elizabeth Marvel (House of Cards) will be amongst the newcomers.

And yes, in case you’re wondering, that is a slowed-down version of Phil Collins’ ‘In the Air Tonight’ by Tamer in the background.

As if the trailer wasn’t chilling enough as it is.

Homeland returns to Showtime on January 15, 2017 and should be on Irish screens shortly afterwards.
