To Summer 2026, and beyond!
A teaser trailer has dropped for Toy Story 5, along with a release date for the beloved animated franchise’s fifth instalment.
It has been almost 30 years since the first movie in the series took the world by storm and five years since Toy Story 4 graced our screens.
As such, Buzz, Woody and the rest of the gang of toys that come to life have been sorely missed by viewers.
Just this weekend though – during Disney fan event D23, which is taking place in Anaheim, California – animation company Pixar released a short teaser trailer for the much-anticipated new film.
This was alongside an update on when it will hit cinema screens: 19 June 2026.
Also during D23, producers confirmed that filmmaker Andrew Stanton will direct the fifth film.
Known for directing Finding Nemo and Wall-E, Stanton worked as a writer on the first four Toy Story movies.
This will be the first time he directs a film in the franchise, however.

Tim Allen, who has voiced the character of Buzz Lightyear since 1995, also took to social media to confirm that he would be returning as everyone’s favourite space ranger for the fifth film.
“See ya soon Woody, you are a sad strange little man and you have my pity,” Allen wrote. “And off we go to a number 5! To infinity and beyond!”

A new Toy Story wasn’t the only big announcement at D23.
Fans were told to expect Incredibles 3, Frozen 3 and a new Lilo and Stitch film in the next couple of years.
Those in attendance were also treated to a trailer for the upcoming Lion King prequel Mufasa: The Lion King, starring Donald Glover, Beyoncé and Seth Rogen.
Directed by Barry Jenkins (Moonlight), the film has been scheduled to hit cinemas on 20 December of this year, just in time for Christmas.
