#TRAILERCHEST: Tom Cruise may have just started the end of the world in The Mummy

Rory Cashin

So long Brendan Fraser, this bandaged baddie is a completely different beast.

Welcome to #TrailerChest, where we’re taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for The Mummy.

Plot’s it all about?:

When he accidentally awakens an ancient evil, Tom Cruise finds that he is the target of Ahmanet (Kingman’s knife legged assassin Boutella), who believes he may be the key to restoring her full power and regaining control of the entire world.

Universal are hoping to set up a modern-day monster movie universe with this one – Crowe is playing Dr. Henry Jekyll, which should give you some indications of where his character is headed – and there is already a Van Helsing movie in pre-production, which should see the introduction of Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolfman and more down the line.

Behind the scenes, this is Kurtman’s first big budget movie, but having previously provided the scripts for the likes of Mission: Impossible 3 and the Star Trek reboot, he’s no stranger to pumping life into flagging franchises.

Meanwhile, the script was worked on by Jon Spaiths (Prometheus, Doctor Strange) and Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Edge Of Tomorrow), and in the middle of it all, we’ve got Cruise going full-run, full-stunt, full-tilt crazy in what looks like a very fun role.

Starring: Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Russell Crowe, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson.

Director: Alex Kurtzman

Irish release date: 9 June 2017

Enjoy…
