Boy Erased hits cinemas in November.

Boy Erased – the film which aims to portray the truth behind gay conversion therapy in the states – hits cinemas this November. And with a cast that boasts Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe, this film is almost certainly set for Oscar glory.

It follows the astonishingly true story of Garrard Conley and what happened when his parents tried to cure him of homosexuality.

Plot’s it all about?: The son of a Baptist preacher, Conley was delivered to gay conversion camp by his parents when he confessed his attraction to other men. His experiences there painstakingly lay the groundworks in this emotional rollercoaster of a movie.

He’s soon faced with an ultimatum — attend a gay conversion therapy program or be permanently exiled and shunned by his family, friends and faith.

Cast: Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, Lucas Hedges, Joel Edgerton, Cherry Jones and Flea (Michael Balzary) from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Director: Joel Edgerton. Edgerton is known for his work in terrifying thriller The Gift, and starring in The Great Gatsby.

Release date: 2 November 2018
