Big news coming from UTV this morning…

UTV Media have confirmed that they’re talks about the potential sale of its television assets, which include UTV and the recently launched UTV Ireland.

There has been media speculation in recent days that the company would be selling the TV part of their business to ITV.

This morning, UTV released a short statement saying that it “notes the recent media speculation and confirms that it is in discussions regarding a potential sale of its television assets”.

While this is by no means a confirmation of a deal being agreed, the company said that they would release a further update on the situation in the coming days.

UTV media launched UTV Ireland in the last 12 months but weak viewing figures have forced them to revise it’s expected losses from £8.5 million to £11.5 million.

Aside from the TV part of the company, UTV Media also own a number of radio stations around Ireland including Dublin’s FM 104 and Galway Bay FM.

Hat-tip to the Belfast Telegraph.
