The Wachowski siblings have returned, and judging by this trailer they might be back to their best
Since they made The Matrix (let’s say the first one, the others weren’t so great) the Wachowskis have produced some weird and not-so-wonderful stuff. Cloud Atlas was ambitious but didn’t make the splash that might have been hoped, while the screenplay for V for Vendetta was also crafted by their hands.
Their latest effort, Jupiter Ascending is a sci-fi fantasy where Mila Kunis stars as Jupiter Jones, whose ordinary life up to this point hasn’t reflected the fact the she is some form of intergalactic royalty. As the YouTube video states, her “genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos”. Sounds like important stuff…
Channing Tatum and Sean Bean appear in the trailer too, with the former being one of the main stars alongside Kunis. He plays a soldier/hunter from outer space who has been searching for Kunis to take her away from Earth, and he seems to get there just in the knick of time.
The scale of the movie looks breathtaking, but we’re hoping that they don’t rely too heavily on CGI. That said, they are going to new planets and outer space so there might be a bit of special effects magic happening. The movie is being lined up for release next July, right in the middle of summer blockbuster season, funnily enough.
