Younger readers might not be aware of it, but to a generation of Irish people that grew up in the 90s, Saved by the Bell was an integral part of their childhood.
Characters like the aforementioned Zack Morris, AC Slater, Kelly Kapowski and Samuel ‘Screech’ Powers were all instantly recognisable in Irish households, as was the principal, Mr. Belding, played by Dennis Haskins.
Haskins just happened to be in the area when New York’s PIX 11 News were covering the Mets run in the National League Championship Series and he delivered a memorable cameo on camera, recalling his days on one of the greatest child/teen series of its era.
