Video: The Muppets are returning to Irish television with a new series

It's time to play the music

Carl Kinsella

It’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights.

It looks like The Muppets are returning to the silver screen exclusively in Ireland and the UK, exclusively on Sky.

A video starring the delectable Miss Piggy went online this morning, offering a couple of details about the new Muppets TV series. The ad is more teaser than trailer, but it does reveal that the show will be a behind-the-scenes documentary style programme that follows The Muppets as they try to make a TV show in The Muppets’ classic self-aware style.

DRUM ROLL PLEASE…Big news to announce from Miss Piggy and Sky One …

If this teaser is anything to go by, The Muppets still haven’t lost what it is that makes them so special. Miss Piggy is still charmingly self-obsessed, Gonzo is still a ‘whatever’ and the writing is still uniquely meta.

It’s only natural for fans of The Muppet Show to be wary of any new installment in The Muppets’ mythology, but with the award-winning Bill Prady (Gilmore Girls, The Big Bang Theory) at the helm, it seems that the ship is in safe hands.
